Instead, we hiked up to the Acropolis. It was definitely a worthwhile sight, no complaints here. We also tromped through the Agora, the old marketplace, and saw where Paul did some of his debating with the people of Athens. Very dusty, and very hot....I now completely understand why footwashing was necessary.

We spent some time looking through some tourist trap shops. I'm also trying to get a Tous bag on the street. Although I don't have any bargaining skills, Liz (proof: she got her Ray Bam aviator sun glasses for a grand 10 euros) is quite good at it; however, we still haven't gotten them down to 15 euros.

We are relaxing in the "oh to be young again" garden until dinner.

Peace out my friends

OOOOPA! Athens- where's it's hot as hades, but pretty sure it's a lil slice of heaven too.

Tonight we are in the Students Inn in Athens, where the motto is "oh, to be young again"...probably be/c once you're older you wouldn't stay here be/c lack of AC or the "conditions". After last nights' hostel, this one is looking 5 star. SKETCH is the only way to describe our last night in Madrid. You'd think that you'd have to tell the ppl staying there that the building is condemned. yikes!! (I wouldn't mention the flower sheets, lime green comforters, or the moldy shower curtain :-/)

We flew on about a 4.5 hr flight today that went smoothly, except for one momento when I was pretty sure we'd drop right out of the sky...new pilot maybe? Then we loaded a bus to downtown Athens on which I sweated like I've never sweated before. We arrived at our hostel, which is in a great location, especially when last night on the way "home" we saw a homeless man dead in the street- his false teeth were broken on the ground and good Samaritans were calling for help (later we heard the ambulance comin).

Tonight we got ourselves oriented with the city and happened by some random old columns (ah, not too random since it happeded they marked where the first Olympics were), and we hiked up to the Acropolis (please excuse any butchering of words misspelled) and saw the most BEAUTIFUL sunset with the Acropolis behind us. Very surreal. And it def put Greece on the Top 5 list of things I've seen in my life- coming close, if not surpassing the E. Tower and Venice- jump back!)

Tomorrow we are taking a bus to Corinth for the day, and Sunday we are hitting up a HUGE Market- apparently it's the shiz.

Sorry not a longer narrative but people are waiting for the computer in this lovely "oh to be young again" place.

love.

More detailed

More Details of my trip…Prob. A few repeats….

Sunday I met Katie at the ATL airport to catch our flight. It went well, especially because of my new found friend, Advil PM. I was swiftly knocked out, and I have a feeling Mr. Advil PM and I will be seeing more of eachother- especially in flight.

We arrived on time the next morning in Madrid and Liz, Katie´s sister, was there to pick us up. Just a short Metro ride and we were to our hostel. Liz then told us that our street was known as the place to pick up prostitutes. Interesting. However, the hostel itself wasn´t that bad.

After settling our things we took a walking tour around Madrid. It could´ve been the jet lag, but I wasn´t a fan of the city. We spent the rest of the day trying to stay awake (thanks to a stop at starbucks too). And we were tucked in bed, and tuckered out by 6:30 that night.

Tuesday we woke up and caught a bus to Granada. About 5 hours or so. Guess who ended up next to the loudest snoring man in all of history with HORRIBLE BO….yea, my luck continues J We arrived in Granada and I pretty much immediately loved it. We also met our friend Oliver- who had traveled from Madrid with us, but we didn´t notice him until we were on the local bus. We parted ways at the bus stop, but when we were walking out of a GELATO (yum) shop we passed him on the street. He tagged along with us while walking up the mountain previously mentioned, and saw the sights from a place we donned smoochfest 08. Then we had dinner and a very interesting conversation.

Today we saw the Alhambra, which was muy beautiful. Lots of pics were taken fo sho. The rest of the day we chilled abit then went off to find dinner (eh, spanish omelette on top of tomato on a piece of bread- I def snuck off to Burger King after that one haha)

So, there´s a complete update….

Tomorrow we have a bus trip back to Madrid, then on Friday we catch a plane to Athens. Woot.

Peace out

cjr

ps- i´ve already packed and repacked my backpack quite enough....i don´t know if i´ll last another 10 days.

¿Que What?

Unfortunately I´ve been living it up over here in Europa, so there isn´t a lot of time left over to update. So far the trip has been wonderful. I was a little worried when we arrived in Madrid because I didn´t find it appealing whatsoever, and I thought that I lost interest in Europa-traveling. BUT HAVE NO FEAR. We arrived yesterday in Granada, Spain and I LOVE it!!!

Yesterday we took a walking tour (accidentally) of the city, including a mountain (mountain, hill call it what you like). It included amazing views of all of Granada, and the Alhambra. We also met a Aussie, Oliver, who has been travelling since the beginning of May. He toured the city with us yesterday- and although we came to the concensus that he´s not sketch...we still had our guard up (no worries, Mom). At dinner we had an awesome discussion about Jesus. He was raised Catholic, however, he´s not really committing to any belief at the moment. He was very curious about the faith the 3 of us share. (Def. a person you can add to your prayers).

Today we toured the Alhambra which was beautiful.Anywho, gotta jet now, we were just taking a wine-juicebox break in the room then it´s back to wandering.

love ya´ll

Finally, something to update about...

I have a brand spankin new niece! YAY! Aubrey was born this morning at a wooping 8lbs 14ozs. No wonder her mom looked like she was carrying a watermelon around. The bad news- I don't know when I'll be able to meet Ms.A- I don't have any time off before my bigtimeprofessionalyayi'mgladi'mfinallyateacher job starts. Sad day.

Right now I'm tidying up the K-fam's house so it will be so fresh, so clean for them when they get back from the Cape. (That means I have to drive to the ATL airport tonight- yikes! But I figured if I drove to the Frankfurt airport and made it back alive....we'll see how it goes)

Okay, that's my update (probably for the next 6 months) Before you know it, the school year will be in full swing.

Peace.

Who saw an update coming?

So, this entry comes at a point in time when I should be doing anything but writing a xanga entry.

The 3rd week of my student teaching started off with a wonderful 2 hour delay. Nothing is better than waking up at 7:35 instead of 5:35. I loved it! I've never prayed for so much snow and ice in my life. The fact that it is the topic of conversation in the lunchroom everyday is hilarious. The Weather Channel on, and everyone asking the odds of getting out any days during the week.

Not much else going on besides student teaching and lesson plans. But my back is better and I no longer have to use tongs to reach anything below waist level. And I can put my socks on and my sneakers, without it taking 10 mins. The things I take for granted on a daily basis.

Well, I gotta go clean up dinner and get to work on some lesson plans.

                                            Peace out-
                                                     Carrie

* Favorite Quote of the day:
"I hope you know CPR, because you take my breath away."
...gotta love 4th grader's pick up lines to the student teacher. I almost spit out the water I was drinking, but I just pretended I didn't hear him.

I'm Updating!!

So, let's see...just some points of interests-

~October is almost over!

~I start my full internship in the classroom on Nov. 2

~I'll be really, ReAlLy, REALLY happy when this semester is over and all the crap I have to do is dooonnnneeee!

~Seeing my Nude Hoe and Chrisa this past weekend was one of the greatest things to happen in my life this semester.

~I really want to know what my brother and sis-in-law are going to name the baby arriving in Feb.(?) (maybe it's early March?) I like the name Carver. I think it goes well with Tanner...they can have a house full of occupations.

~I have 6 lesson plans due on Thursday and I haven't gotten the first one done. I also have 10 article critiques to do.

~ Next semester I'll be student teaching, and following that I will be in the real world. I don't know where I want to go to teach. Wisconsin? Penn? Africa? East coast? West coast? I'm not thinking about it right now-we'll just have to see with that....

~And because I haven't used a sad face yet, I feel I should include a sad bullet of 411. My pumpkin has shriveled and become moldy. Sadness fo sho.

Peace out, yo.

Sunday, August 13, 2006

Today on the way home from the base we stopped and picked our own sunflowers! We had passed the field earlier and Ann read the sign (since it was in German) that said it was pick your own, 50 cents a piece, on the honor system! The people left a knife out and everything...why don't we have this kind of stuff in the States?...and if we did no one would trust anyone enough to do it on the honor system.

Anyway, only 5 more days in Germany

PS- When having a tough day with a 6 and 8 year old stubborness...just break out the "Father Abraham" including all the actions and a crazy voice.
